Florals in February - class 3/15

Writer: Tina Rawson Tina Rawson

It's the month of love and flowers, of course, is a big part of it. I love fresh flowers! They are a constant source of inspiration. I love the colors of nature and the way the textures in a bouquet play off of one another. I try to emulate the feeling of joy and harmony in my flowers. I would like to try to share that with you.

I'm hosting a class on March 15th to help you get into the flow -- the free and flowing floral flow with me! But let's first talk a little about the process and some ideas that I'll bat around with you at this free class.

First, how involved do you want to get? If you want to try make a flowing floral you first have to really understand it. I know that sounds contradictory but by understanding the building blocks, you'll be able to mess them up and play with them.

First the shapes

So is it a trumpet shape, an oval, a spire, or is your flower a circle with petals? It's an easy step from simple shapes to the painting above, or you can do more if you wish

Here I looked at a seed packet and after studying the flowers I used a sponge and some brushes to try to get the feeling of the spires. I should have darkened the contrast but I liked the soft old fashioned feeling so I kept it as is. That's your call. You can learn to do this too!

This abstract floral is the most advanced because it brings into play composition, color mixing and some building of the florals on this crazy background.

First you add all the darks (scary for me), then the warm and cool whites, then start adding the colors, and finally the shapes of the flowers. It's all about the layers in this approach. It's pretty cool and very freeing. Try it if you want.

Here's my attempt at trying a new approach. I'll let you know how it goes... Work in progress.

As an artist you always have to push yourself and keep learning. Come explore with me in March 15th. RSVP on the event page. It will be FREE and FUN, and held at my house. 🤗
